Introduction
Part 301 to Part 312 specify the Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) Network communications architecture.
The CDPD Network communications architecture is based on the ISO layered communications reference model.
Part 301 provides a brief definition of the layered communications model. In addition, Part 301 introduces the concept of communications subprofiles. These subprofiles are used as building blocks to define the CDPD Network element communications profiles.
The CDPD Network subprofiles are classified into:
a. Application subprofiles
b. Lower layer subprofiles
c. Subnetwork subprofiles.
In Part 310, the CDPD Application subprofiles are specified. These include the CDPD Support Services subprofiles and the CDPD Application Services subprofiles. The CDPD Support Services subprofiles include:
a. Network Management Services subprofile
b. Message Transfer Services Reliable Transfer subprofile
c. Message Transfer Services Reliable Access subprofile
d. Accounting Services subprofile.
The CDPD Application Services subprofiles include:
a. Network Management (M-ES) Services subprofile.
Part 311 specifies the CDPD Lower Layer subprofiles. These include:
a. ISO connection-oriented transport service-connectionless network service subprofile
b. Internet connectionless transport service-connectionless network service subprofile
c. Internet connection-oriented transport service-connectionless network service subprofile
d. Connectionless network service-relay subprofile
e. CDPD mobile connectionless network service-relay subprofile
f. M-ES ISO CLNS subprofile
g. M-ES Internet CLNS subprofile
h. Fixed End System (F-ES) ISO CLNS subprofile
i. F-ES Internet CLNS subprofile.
Part 312 specifies the CDPD subnetwork subprofiles. These include:
a. X.25 WAN subnetwork subprofile
b. PVC Frame Relay subnetwork subprofile
c. Point-to-point subnetwork subprofile
d. LAN subnetwork subprofile
e. CDPD Channel Stream subnetwork subprofile
f. CDPD MAC/Physical subnetwork subprofile.
The CDPD subprofiles are used as building blocks to define the communications protocol profiles of the CDPD Network elements.
