This Standard specifies the energy efficiency labelling requirements for electric clothes washing machines intended for household and similar use. This Standard does not specify safety requirements. Examples of appliances covered by this Standard are top loading nondrum type washers (usually impeller or agitator), front and top loading drum type washers and the washer function of combination washer-dryers.

In particular, this Standard specifies the following:

(a) Program for energy efficiency labelling and water efficiency labelling.

(b) Comparative energy consumption (CEC).

(c) Star rating for energy efficiency labelling.

(d) Requirements for energy efficiency label validity.

(e) Performance criteria for energy efficiency labelling.

(f) Printing requirements for clothes washing machine energy efficiency labels.

(g) Format for the application for registration for energy efficiency labelling and water efficiency labelling.
