This Standard specifies requirements for traffic control devices for the control and protection of pedestrians at facilities on roads including pedestrian and children's crossings, mid-block pedestrian actuated traffic signals, pedestrian refuges and malls.

NOTE: The following are not covered by this Standard:

(a) Pedestrian crossings at signalized intersections, see AS 1742.14.

(b) Pedestrian facilities at railway crossings, see AS 1742.7.

(c) Temporary pedestrian facilities at roadworks, see AS 1742.3.

(d) Shared pedestrian/bicycle paths, see AS 1742.9.
