This standard has been prepared by the NASA Principal Center
Integration Team (PCIT) on the authority of the NASA CIO and will be
maintained under the auspices of that office.
Applicability.
This standard describes a common IT framework in order to
enable consistent and efficient IT practices across NASA programs. This
document is intended to be used by NASA IT service providers, management,
business and scientific partners and outsourcers.
The intent is to:
▪ Provide a specific technical framework from which the
NASA IT environment may be effectively managed from a strategic and a tactical
perspective
▪ Provide guidance to those entities that design and
deploy IT services in support of the NASA mission
▪ Provide a vehicle through which NASA Programs and
Projects may influence the overall NASA IT direction to better support their
missions. This assumes that this document not only serves as a technical
architecture but serves also as a reflection of current "best practices" and
successful IT utilization throughout the Agency.
▪ Serve as a core component of an extended NASA
"enterprise architecture" (EA). The NASA EA directly links the Agency IT
environment and initiatives to the broader NASA goals, objectives, and
business processes.
This Technical Framework (TF) is largely an update of the
technology framework as defined in the NASA Integrated Information Technology
Architecture (NIITA). Within this document, however, the NIITA TF has been
significantly extended to provide more direct and actionable guidance, as well
as relevant NASA points of contact, to Agency and partner IT service
providers. As such, this document supersedes NASA-Standard-STD-2814.
