PURPOSE a. NASA establishes or abolishes positions and assigns duties and responsibilities to employees in order to accomplish the Agency's mission. The NASA Supplemental Classification System (NSCS) recognizes the distinctive aspects of NASA work situations within the broader context of the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) occupational series definitions.

APPLICABILITY. This NPG is applicable to NASA Headquarters and NASA Centers, including Component Facilities. Unless otherwise indicated, use of the word Center(s) in the text of the NPG includes NASA Headquarters, and any reference to Center Director(s) includes the Associate Administrator for Headquarters Operations.
