PURPOSE. This NASA Procedures and Guidelines (NPG) describes processes for implementing and managing the NASA Occupational Health Program (OHP). The OHP is the overarching Agency function encompassing two major components (Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health) and integrating other essential contributors to employee health. Health is a critical part of the Agency Safety Initiative (ASI). The Safety and health Hierarchy is safety to the public, astronauts and pilots, the NASA workforce, and high value equipment and property. This NPG explains how services and reporting procedures for occupational medicine, occupational health nursing, environmental health, and employee support elements are standardized, when warranted and practicable, across the Agency. It also provides information on obtaining technical support, continuing education, and training in all functional areas. The document does not stand alone but must be used in conjunction with the references listed in P.4 below.
APPLICABILITY. This NPG is applicable to NASA Headquarters, NASA Centers and Component Facilities as well as to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)and NASA contractors to the extent specified in their contracts.
