Arlington Heights, IL, USA---The Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA International) announced that the Board of Standards Review of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the following document on October 9, 2009; ANSI/AMCA STANDARD 510-09, "Methods of Testing Heavy Duty Dampers for Rating." This standard was previously approved by the AMCA membership on July 26, 2008, and then sent to ANSI to begin approval process. 510-09 establishes testing methods used in measuring the performance of dampers used in the utility and heavy industry.

The products covered within the scope of ANSI/AMCA 510-09 include dampers, which are used to control flow of a gas (specific gas, a mixture of gas and air, or air alone) or to isolate one section of a duct system from another section of the system. The scope narrows to those dampers generally described as "custom design," "heavy duty," or "severe service," because such dampers are normally used in applications where elevated temperature, erosion and/or corrosion conditions exist.

ANSI /AMCA Standard 510-09 is available for purchase

AMCA International is accredited by ANSI as a standards developer using the "canvass" method. The canvass method provides and promotes a process that verifies the principles of openness have been followed in the approval procedure. It also ensures that a consensus of those individuals who are directly and materially affected by the standard(s) has been achieved.
