CGA C-14 2005-AUG-11 PROCEDURES FOR FRE TESTNG OF DOT CYLNDER PRESSURE RELEF DEVCE SYSTEMS-Fourth Edton
This publication defines test equipment and procedures that are applicable for fire testing cylinder systems having water capacities of 1000 lb (454 kg) or less and provides sufficient test data to verify the capability of the cylinder system to prevent rupture of a normally charged cylinder. For most cylinders, selection of the type and size of PRD required to safely discharge the contents of a cylinder can be achieved by the use of the information contained in CGA S-1.1 [2].
Because acetylene cylinders have a unique design requiring an internal filler-mass, which might break up or otherwise obstruct the PRD channels during a fire, industry has specified a fire test specifically for acetylene cylinders that is not addressed in this publication. Fire testing of acetylene cylinders is covered in CGA C-12, Qualification Procedure for Acetylene Cylinder Design [5].
Fire testing is neither required nor recommended except as stipulated in Section 4.
