This document, together with its addenda, provides uniform test methods for testing the fiber optic components intended for, or forming a part of, optical communications and data transmission systems.

This document is an "umbrella" for only those (informative) test methods that apply to non-specifiable parameters. For specifiable parameters, which require standard test procedures, refer to the series under the umbrella of EIAíTIA-455-A.

Test methods in this TSB-62 series shall not be called out in any TIA specification document.

The sponsoring TIA subcommittees have the final responsibility for assigning test methods to this TSB-62 series, instead of to the EIA/TIA-455 series (FOTPs), the latter applying to specifiable parameters. For general criteria on what constitutes a parameter that is not specifiable, see 1.3.1 of TSM-5.

Some of the test procedures assigned as addenda to TSB-62 may apply to parameters that could become specifiable in the future. At such a time the test procedure shall be converted to the EIA/TIA-455 series of FOTPs, and published, before the parameter can be specified. Upon publishing of the FOTP to succeed a particular ITM, that ITM shall then be rescinded

Neither this document, nor its addenda, provide procedures designed for testing fiber optic systems. For test procedures for fiber optic systems or subsystems, refer to the TIA/EIA-526 series of documents.
