Scope of This Document

This standard details definitions, method of measurements and minimum performance characteristics for Forward Link Only transmitters. For the purpose of this specification, "transmitter" shall include any necessary output filter(s) that must be employed to meet any part of this specification.

This standard shares the purpose of [1], [2] and [3] by ensuring that a Forward Link Only transmitter can provide service in any system that meets the compatibility requirements of [1], [2] and [3].

Compatibility, as used in the connection with this standard and [1], [2] and [3], is understood to mean that any Forward Link Only transmitter is able to transmit multicast service information that can be received by any Forward Link Only device. Test methods are recommended in this document; however, methods other than those recommended may suffice for the same purpose.

Revision A of this specification expanded the scope to include minimum performance test coverage for 7 and 8 MHz channel bandwidths in the UHF band. Additionally, that revision deleted unused terms and definitions and removed requirements for I/Q imbalance and phase noise, since the effects of these impairments are captured by the MER requirement (see Section 2.1.3.1). Finally, the MER test procedure was revised to reduce the burden on test equipment manufacturers, while maintaining essential test requirements, by changing the minimum number of OFDM symbols over which measurements are averaged.

Revision B of this specification expands the scope to include minimum performance test coverage for TIA 1099 Rev A and B compliant transmitters. New tests for the Signaling Parameter Channel (SPC) and Positioning Pilot Channel (PPC) characterization have been added. Existing tests have been updated to reflect support for

2048, 4096 and 8192 point FFT sizes

Cyclic prefix lengths (in chips) of ¼, 3/16, 1/8 and 1/16 of the FFT size.

Additional pilot patterns specified in [2].

Additional transmit modes specified in [1].

The Modulation Error Ratio (MER) measurement procedure has been updated to support new sub-channels (PPC and SPC), pilot patterns and FFT sizes.

Revision B of this specification also removes any direct references to band specific and region specific requirements, instead referring to [4].
