Equipment Covered.
This standard applies to self-propelled, vertically-adjustable integral-chassis work platforms that are used to position personnel along with their tools and necessary materials at overhead work locations. Such work platforms are power-operated with primary controls for all machine functions of movement operated from the platform. The platform may be horizontally extended or rotated relative to the elevating mechanism. (See Fig. 1 for examples.)
Equipment Not Covered.
This standard does not apply to the following:
(1) Vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating work platforms (such as those covered in American National Standard for Vehicle Mounted Elevating and Rotating Work Platforms, ANSI A92.2-1969)
(2) Mobile ladder stands and scaffolds (towers) (such as those covered in American National Standard for Manually Propelled Mobile Ladder Stands and Scaffolds (Towers), ANSI A92.1-1977)
(3) Non-self-propelled elevating work platforms (such as those covered in American National Standard for Elevating Work Platforms, ANSI A92.3-1973)
(4) Self-propelled or manually propelled work platforms supported by a boom elevating means which telescopes or articulates or rotates, or any combination of the foregoing, relative to the base in order to extend the platform beyond the base dimension
(5) Powered platforms for exterior building maintenance (such as those covered in American National Standard Safety Code for Powered Platforms for Exterior Building Maintenance, ANSI A120.1-1970)
(6) Vertically-adjustable platforms used primarily to raise and lower materials or materials-handling equipment, or both, with the operating personnel necessary to transfer such materials between varying elevations
