ANS A923 1980-MAR-19 MANUALLY PROPELLED ELEVATNG WORK PLATFORMS
Equipment Covered. This standard applies to manually propelled, vertically adjustable work platforms which are used to position personnel, along with their tools and necessary materials, at job sites situated above the device. Such work platforms are vertically adjustable by manual or powered means and may be towed or manually moved horizontally on wheels or casters that are an integral part of the work platform base. Alternatively, the base may be skidded or stationary, and the platform may be horizontally extended or rotated relative to the base structure.
Equipment Not Covered. The intent of this standard is to exclude any matter relating to:
(1) Mobile ladder stands and scaffolds (towers) (such as those covered in American National Standard for Manually Propelled Mobile Ladder Stands and Scaffolds (Towers), ANSI A92.1-1977)
(2) Vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating work platforms (such as those covered in ANSI A92.2-1979)
(3) Self-propelled elevating work platforms (such as those covered in American National Standard for Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms, ANSI A92.6-1979)
(4) Powered platforms for exterior building maintenance (such as those covered in American National Standard Safety Code for Powered Platforms for Exterior Building Maintenance, ANSI A120.1-1970)
(5) Equipment intended primarily to raise and lower materials or materials-handling equipment, or both, with their operating personnel
Application. The requirements of this standard apply to work platforms that are for use over and on level ground surfaces and are not insulated for use near electrically energized circuits.
