Purpose and Scope— It is the purpose of this portion of the standard to provide guidance and data for the design of straight (nonhelical) involute spline teeth, to present dimensions for splines of recommended pitches, also a methodical treatment of manufacturing errors and their effect on the fit between mating splined parts.

Spline Tooth Dimensions— Tabulated dimensions cover a range from 2.5/5 to 48/96 pitch and from to 60 teeth.

Units of Measurement— Linear dimension and tolerances are expressed in inches; angular dimensions and tolerances in degrees.
